Get unstuck from the curriculum

Some bits of school maths are simple once they click — but frustrating when they do not. Unstuck is for young learners meeting these ideas for the first time, and also for older or adult learners returning to school-level mathematics after a long gap. It takes familiar topics apart, shows where the ideas come from, gives you shortcuts for rebuilding them, and then helps the useful facts stick.

Learning deliberately
The aim is not just to learn the topic — but to understand how the learning happens.

Unstuck encourages learners to make conscious choices about how they learn: when to build an idea visually, when to practise retrieval, when to use a shortcut, when to slow down and reconstruct an answer, and when repetition is genuinely useful.

Different from Beyond Curriculum: these are not new topics. They are new ways into topics that may have become muddled, mechanical or unpleasant.

Times Tables

See multiplication as a shortcut for counting, shrink the amount you really need to memorise, learn ways to rebuild forgotten facts, and practise with an app that remembers what you know from day to day.

What gets stuck next?

Fractions, negative numbers, long division and algebra are natural future candidates. The aim is always the same: understand first, find a route back when you forget, then build fluency.
